Nov. 24 slam recap, our 7th bday!

Welcome back, Mike Smith aka White Noise Machine!

The former TPS Team member took a two-year hiatus from TPS only to return on Nov. 24 to take the win, on our 7th bday no less.

WNM was up against formidable competition, such as David Delisca (current TPS Team member), Emilee, Iyah, Amy and Banoo. We got a nice range of material, such as WNM telling us about heartbreak and David D. recounting his unfortunate Toronto Police encounter.

Toronto Poetry Slam celebrates 7 years this Saturday night!

That's right, we've been bringing spoken word awesomeness to Toronto for 7 years and tonight we celebrate! With poetry of course.

SATURDAY NOV. 24 @ THE DRAKE HOTEL (1150 Queen St. W)

Along with our usual spoken word competition, we also have guest poet Missie Peters gracing our stage

Finding the poetic in the personal and the metaphor in the mundane, Missie Peters is a spoken word artist and improviser from Victoria BC. She is a two-time Victoria Slam Champion, a former Slam Master and the current Artistic Director of the Victoria Spoken Word Festival.

Nov. 11 slam recap

Let's call this the all-star Sunday slam edition, cuz a whack of international poets made an appearance at the Nov. 11 slam @ the Drake.

Jovan from Colorado. Andre from Calgary. Shayne and Johnny from Victoria. Patrick from Oakland. Lots of hot talent lit the stage on Sunday night, felt like a Finals bout.

After the first round, many of the int'l poets moved on, such as Jovan and Andre, but some hometown faves were also in the mix, such as Richard Lett and Patrick de Belen.

Toronto Poetry Slam coming SUNDAY NOVEMBER 11

We're back at the Drake, this time with a very special guest from Baltimore: CHRIS AUGUST!
In 2011, he was named the number one performance poet in the country at the Individual World Poetry Slam, held in Cleveland, Ohio. Making his Toronto debut!

Oct. 27 slam recap

The Anthropocalypse was nigh! But before we get into the awesome feature delighting our audience, let's talk slam.

A packed slam list and a bursting open mic list gave Alessandra, our dear host, all she could handle and boy did she do a swell job, all costumed up too as a wolf. The first round was very strong, with the likes of IF and David Delisca and Sabrina giving us top-notch performances. Even a team piece was thrown into the mix, in Cathy's slot, giving us a taste of what the Toronto Poetry Slam Team has been up to these last few months.

Recap of Oct. 14 slam

Sunday's post-Canadian Festival of Spoken Word slam brought out a mix of veterans and emerging talents to the Drake Underground eager to spit their rhymes to a raucous audience.
As the Toronto Poetry Slam team wound its way home from Saskatoon after having successfully made the finals of CFSW, poetry lovers flooded the Underground for the first slam following the festival and ready to take in the force of nature that is Truth Is, the Sunday feature.

The Team battles on the Semifinals stage TONIGHT at CFSW!

Quick post about the TPS Team making it to the Semifinals stage at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Saskatoon. Tonight (friday), our team will go up against Victoria, Guelph and Up from the Roots Toronto in what is bound to be a remarkable night of hot spoken word.

Four other teams will also take the semifinals stage: Calgary, Kitchener-Waterloo, Capital Slam (Ottawa) and Saskatoon.

The TPS Team is off to Saskatoon for the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word!

On Tuesday, the Toronto Poetry Slam Team leaves our fair city to compete at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Saskatoon, from Oct. 9 to 13. Our Team will go up against 22 other slam teams from across the nation, with the goal of making Semifinals on Friday and Finals on Saturday.

We know many of our fans can't make the trip BUT you can follow the action via our Twitter feed @TOpoetryslam

We aren't certain when we bout on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday, but we'll keep you posted Monday night via Twitter.
