Are you, or do you know anyone, who is 12-19, interested in/performs spoken word poetry, and is interested in representing the BAM! Toronto Youth Poetry Slam team at local to even international levels? Compete at least twice from February to September and gain points from competing. The higher you finish, the more points you receive. (5 points for first, 3 for second, 2 for third, and 1 for everyone else). The top 12 will be invited in October to compete towards the finals in November of 8 poets to make the team! So get to slamming, youth!
BAM! is going to get better each year! Invite your friends and come to an event and see what we are about!
So what is a poetry slam?
A poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric (1-10) scale by previously selected members of the audience. Judging criteria is based on both content and delivery. Poets have 3 minutes to recite their poems, with a 10 sec grace period. After that, time penalties are assessed. No costumes, props, musical accompaniment, etc are permitted. 5 judges raise scorecards and the lowest and highest scores are dropped for a possible score of 30.
Artistic Directors: Brian Millado and Patrick De Belen.
Hosted by Patrick De Belen.
