ARIEL PLATT!
She brought the heat, giving us a good dose of funny and powerful poetry. Ariel, a member of the 2009 Toronto Poetry Slam Team, will rep Toronto at the Women of the World Poetry Slam going down in Columbus, OH from March 10 to 13.
The night was filled with poetry, as RC Weslowski says. 8 competitors rocked the stage, including TPP member Tanya and friend of the slam Jill Christmas. Let's not forget Darya and BAM! Slam Team member Alex. Some newbies also competed and a newcomer even made it to the 4th - Leisha (I know I'm misspelling it).
Props to Krystle Mullin for hosting the shit out of the slam, and thanks to PAN for scorekeeping/timekeeping and Amanda for working the door.
Kayla Lorette and Alana Johnston slayed our faces with their improv poetry, giving us a taste of what they do Friday nights at the Comedy Bar.
And the crowd? Incredible. Packed by 8pm, standing room only at The Boat for the rest of the night. Goes to show people are hungry for poetics, no matter the night, no matter the venue. Couldn't have asked for a better Wed. night slam.
Next time you see Ariel give her a massive high-five and a hug for doin what she does. I'm so proud to have her as our rep at the Women of the World.
I love it when I'm quoted.
But more importantly congrats to Ariel.
