(This is for people applying for the Canada Council for the Art's Spoken Word n' Storytelling Program. I think the deadline is sometime in April)
Dear artist or producer,
I am pleased to inform you that the Canada Council for the Arts' Action Plan 2008-2011, moving forward, is being implemented and that a significant part of this plan involves the allocation of new funds. The Spoken Word and Storytelling program is one of the targeted programs impacted by this, and it is fitting that this program, in its 10th year, will see an increase in grant maximums. Spoken word and storytelling artists, collectives and festivals and series, have made great strides in this decade and I hope the program has played a part in this.
The new grant maximums are:
* $25,000 in Creation and Production (up from $20,000) [Priority for grants higher than $17,000 are given to artists/collectives with a significant profile];
* $35,000 for established Festivals and Series (up from $25,000) [established are in existence for at least two consecutive years] and $12,000 (up from $10,000) for New Festivals and $7,000 (up from $5,000) for New Series.
I will be pleased to answer any questions regarding these new grant maximums. Do keep in mind that the monthly subsistence maximum for artists remains $2000 per month and that the minimum scales for payment to artists in performance remains $250 for a full performance (averaging an hour in time) and $125 for a joint performance (averaging half-an-hour in time). As before, eligible costs in Creation and Production include production expenses.
Finally, a new template is available on the web site for Festivals and Series to use for reporting. Please follow this template in your application to Festivals and Series.
