Announcing MIC CHECK, Canada's first spoken word anthology

I am very pleased to announce the arrival of MIC CHECK, the first anthology of spoken word featuring Canadian artists solely. Edited by Dave Silverberg (that's me), this anthology is from the small press Quattro Books in Toronto, who strongly believe spoken word can come alive on the page as well as the stage. To that end, Quattro and I compiled 15 poets from across Canada to give us their delicious spoken word goodness.

The book will be launched in Toronto on MONDAY APRIL 28 @ Cervejaria (842 College), near Ossington. 7pm. Free.
Performers include anthologized poets Leviathan, Valentino Assenza and White Noise Machine.

The book will soon be available in bookstores (those that are interested) and also via the Quattro website in late April. That URL is http://quattrobooks.ca/

So this is a big moment for the spoken word scene and the publishing industry...For the first time, Canadian spoken word artists get recognized in a national spoken word book, and the book trade will soon wake up to the realization that performance poetry deserves its place in libraries, bookstores, school curriculum, etc.

If anyone has any questions about MIC CHECK, email me at info AT torontopoetryslam DOT com.

The list of spoken word artists in the anthology include: White Noise Machine, Amanda Hiebert, Val Assenza, Leviathan, Ritallin, Kevin Matthews, Skip Stone, Andrea van Wichert, Barbara Adler, R.C. Weslowski, Magpie Ulysses, Kaie Kellough, Ardath Whynacht, Shone Abet, Moe Clark.
