The 2012/13 TPS season began with some hot hot poetry and a nice smattering of newcomers hitting the stage with passion.
With 8 poets in the first round, we were were treated to 18yrold Estefania and her excellent stage presence and strong writing. Macer fabled us with his classic story about the bear, and Desiree got lyrical with some of her love poetry. Dan Murray aka Dan aka Dan Murray blew some brains with his I Want a World piece, which some of us first heard at Dwayne Morgan's boxing-ring head-to-head show.
Second round saw an impressively freestyled 6-minute poet courtesy of newcomer Tim, and he got lots of applause but his time penalty hurt him bad. Third round gave us Estefania, Dan and Macer, with Dan rockin the mic right to win first place and a bye into semis (if he slams again). Estefania took 2nd and Macer third. Scores will be up shortly showing the true standings of all poets.
Our features came all the way from Melbourne, Australia and they did not disapoint. Kudos to Joel and Michelle for making the night even more special, and who knew Michelle could kill it on thumb piano! Look for them if they tour to your part o' the world.
Next slam is July 28 featuring Mary Pinkoski, see you then!
